How we Work
We recognise that all businesses are different and that not all owners have the same ambitions. The most important thing from the start is to explore with you the opportunities and/or issues that you face and identify where you want to take your business.
There is often a particular situation that prompts a business to seek additional help from outside. It may be a positive situation where you are at a crossroads in your development and you need to assess options carefully. You may be in any one of a number of challenging situations that all companies face as they grow. How you react now could be the difference between success and failure in the long-term.
Regardless of the motivation for talking with us, we will explore the background to your current position objectively, practically and without judgement. We will conduct a high-level review of your business with you and provide a summary report on the areas where we feel we may be able to contribute to the growth and development of your business. If we do not believe we can provide sufficient value to your business to justify using our services we will tell you and suggest an alternative approach – we have no interest in earning fees that do not add value to your business.

Following this initial appraisal of the business and the identification of the benefits of working with The Freelance FD, we would agree the level of involvement that you would like us to have. We will work with you in as flexible a way as possible to fit in with your business requirements. We can do an individual project to address a specific need and do no more with you when it is finished. However, we find clients get the greatest benefit from our involvement when we are able to work with the business for small amounts of time over a longer period. That way we get to understand the day-to-day workings of your business at a much deeper level, become a partner with you, are a sounding board for you to use, and are more likely to identify further opportunities for development.
Typically, we might work on-site with a client between two and five days each month. In addition, your Finance Director is always available on the phone or by e-mail to discuss any matters as they arise. The Freelance FD will often be in contact with each client company on an almost daily basis. Keeping in touch with developments ensures that he is always in a position to offer best value and advice.
